The
Liberty Idol Contest (a thirteen week competition)
held auditions for the first 4 weeks and 65 people
were selected to compete. The first round continues
this Saturday as the audience votes to determine the
contestants who will make it through to the second
round. Anyone can enjoy the show and has the
opportunity to participate by casting their ballet. In
order for a vote to be valid, each ballet must have
five people circled as the best for the evening. It
is FREE to vote and FREE for the contestants to compete
and every week, the audience also has an opportunity
to win. So far, over $2000 in cash and prizes
have been awarded to people in the audience and the
shows are just beginning.
In
2008, over 50,000 people attended Liberty Idol. This
year is pacing to exceed those numbers with an event
that is family oriented, safe and fun for the entire
community. On May 30th, over 3000 people came
out for a perfect evening of music under the stars. Those
wishing to attend the concert can begin setting up
lawn chairs at 2PM. There are different guest
judges each week and this week Billy Mitchell from
Greenville and Bill Sorachek, CEO of the Ronald McDonald
House of the Carolinas will be our guest judges. Liberty
Idol continues to attract attention from many people
in the recording and acting community. One thing
that you can be sure is that you never know who will
be in the audience. The Ronald McDonald House
of the Carolinas is the Liberty Idol 2009 Charity of
Choice. Our goal is surpass the $5000 that was
raised last year. This will be accomplished with
the addition of the 1st Annual Liberty Idol Golf Tournament
on July 17th and the Liberty Idol Value Card (cost
$10) with 100% of the profits going to the Ronald McDonald
House. This event is completely funded by sponsorships
of local businesses, the City of Liberty, The Liberty
Chamber of Commerce and through grants from Pickens
County.
